It allows you to adjust brightness for using under sun.

Echo 100 comes with a 200 KHz frequency transducer. It works in up to 600 ft fresh water but only 300 ft if you are on salt water. Like all other Garmin family products, echo 100 has friendly user interface which makes you read and navigate easily.
